Hello Soph! Meet our new Digital Producer
Help us welcome Soph to the AD team! She joined us late last year as our new Digital Producer and as per tradition, we’ve conducted a little Q&A to get to know her better.
What attracted you to After Digital?
I’ve always admired the work AD produces, and I love working in an agency environment. They have amazing clients and work not just in the arts and cultural sector but beyond. As soon as I got a chance to speak with the wider team during the interview I knew AD was the perfect fit!
Plus the reusable water bottle when you join is a total bonus….
Tell us a bit about what you did before joining After Digital.
Just before joining the AD team, I was working at another amazing digital agency in the sector. I’ve always really worked in Arts and Culture, from running venues at the Edinburgh Fringe, producing tours and a New Writing festival, to being a Stage Manager and Sound Engineer. After years in live events I took a step back from making theatre and I moved to the marketing department of a touring company. There I learnt the ins and outs of Tessitura. Alongside my history of working in arts organisations, I’m also a qualified Archivist, and so have a strong understanding of the needs of the Heritage sector.
What do you bring to the team?
5 pets (2 cats and 3 snakes, not that you asked) several tattoo’s, laughter—as a dyslexic human, I can often mis-read things. Sometimes this is too funny not to share with the team….
Other than that and my varied background, I bring lots of random information, and skills when it comes to organising people, data and things.
What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
Getting to work with so many different people with a wide variety of skills and experience. Getting to work in the middle of all departments and with all sorts of clients. Being challenged every day to think in new ways, getting to ask weird questions and learn new things. I feel so lucky to be in a role I love, surrounded by talented humans that I can further learn from.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love variety in my spare time as much as I do at work! So I’ve always got many things on the go- cross stitch, crochet, board games, drinking wine, taking photos, going mountain biking or rock climbing and often I relax by cooking! Usually with an audiobook on in the background. Oh and I'm always befriending animals.
I’m basically an old lady at heart.
Are you a starter/main course or main course/ dessert type of person?
Can I have several side dishes and a dessert? If you’ve never decided instead of a main, to just have a bunch of side dishes (even better when you’re with a group of friends and you all just collectively get one of everything from the sides), it’s wonderful!
But if you made me choose then, main and dessert.
What is the most interesting (be that cool, random or otherwise!) thing that’s ever happened to you?
When I was studying my post grad we were taught to handle various delicate artefacts and books. Through this I ended up getting to hold one of Shakespeare’s few original First Folio’s. I also got to see up close how gold leaf used to be used in books, and some mediaeval doodles (they’re officially called marginalia)!
What's your favourite quote?
‘And those who were seen dancing, were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.’ - Generally attributed to Neitzsche.
I love this quote because it’s the perfect reminder that, just because it doesn’t make sense or seem right from your perspective, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It’s a nice reminder to stop, and try to look at the world in new ways. Do this, and you’ll open your mind to so many new possibilities.
If you could watch only one TV show/ film for the rest of your life what would it be?
Grey's Anatomy - a perfect combination of medical and interpersonal drama. Plus there’s so many seasons that it will take a very long time to get bored of all those storylines!
You’re stranded on an island, what are the three things you would take with you?
Can I bring a person? If so - my partner Ed, our kayak and some paddles!
Which celeb would play you in a movie?
Hmmmm, I’d probably rather be behind the camera than in front of it! But I guess if I had to choose maybe Audrey Tautou (if only I had her cheekbones!)
Soph has been an amazing addition to the team in her first few months and we’re always pleased to see our small team growing. If you’d like to join our award winning team, check out our vacancies, or follow us on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for the latest news.
